Talent Bank Questions & Answers

Q: I don't get it. How can you make this resource available for free? What's the catch?

A: Simply put, Career Horizons has been helping match Puget Sound companies and candidates together for years as a professional courtesy and a natural extension of our work in the career coaching and outplacement field. This new system merely helps automate the task and increases our ability to make these types of valuable connections, which we believe sets our career transition services even that much more apart from competing firms here in the area.

Q: As an employer, I've got some hiring needs that might fit some of your candidates, but I don't quite get how the process works. Do I contact you to get a resume on the candidates I've selected?

A: First of all, thank you for visiting our site; it sounds like you're here for all the right reasons! In terms of contacting our client candidates, however, the process is simple. Just pull up the profiles of the candidates that interest you and click the "contact" option. This will allow you to e-mail a note directly to the candidate in question, explaining your interest, at which point the candidate can choose whether or not to respond based on their current work situation. Career Horizons does not function as an intermediary in this process, however; we simply facilitate the connection in order to put good people in touch with good companies. Unfortunately, as a consequence, we can offer no specific guarantees about the accuracy of candidate profiles or their individual availability, since we don't provide the formal "candidate screening" step that would take place with a fee-based recruiter or staffing agency.

Q: I'm a Career Horizons client who has just landed a job, so I'm no longer interested in promoting my availability to area employers, at least for the time being. What should I do?

A: Anticipating this scenario, and the fact that many of our clients might want to temporarily disable their Talent Bank profile from time to time, we've added an "Activate Profile?" button in the Add/Edit Profile screen. This button is checked by default when you create a new profile, but if you ever want to remove your profile from showing up in employer search results, just uncheck the button. Your profile will then become invisible to employers, but won't be deleted, just in case you find yourself back in the market at some point and want to resume your Talent Bank participation.

Q: I'm a candidate who is currently employed, but ready for a new challenge and interested in making my availability known to employers on a selective, confidential basis. Is the Talent Bank system appropriate for me?

A: The answer to your question is a provisional "yes" since all candidate profiles are identified solely by a random UserId number. Visiting employers will therefore never have access to your name, e-mail address, or contact information unless you choose to share it with them. It will be utterly up to you whether you choose to respond to a specific employer contact request. We must stress, however, that we can't guarantee confidentiality in a legal sense given the unique nature of Internet-based data and the possibility that an employer (including your current employer) might be able to "guess" your identity based on your work history and other clues you've listed in your candidate profile.
